Let me explain: Watch this video first (via). It’s a guy comparing the promotional video Nokia made for their N97 with what it’s like in the real world. Spoiler: It sucks. It is absolutely nothing like how Nokia presents it. Slow, no swooshy animations, freezes often…
In comparison, all the videos Apple makes for their products are the real deal. Actual human hands (and fingers) interacting with the actual products. You can literally see the pixels on the screen, and even the delays are realistic (although in an optimal environment).
Put a product video of Apple next to a product video of whatever iPhone/iPad-killing company, and we geeks immediately know who to trust, and what product we should buy.
But there you have it, geeks. Have you ever noticed how many of your non-geek friends don’t see the point of spending over €500 on an iPhone? They buy these “iPhone killers” because they’re on sale (or because of some smooth marketing video). Oh look, they also have multi-touch, and you can also flick your finger across the screen to scroll, why would I buy an iPhone?
And then there are the specs. “But my phone has a better camera than your overpriced iPhone”, or more RAM memory, or more CPU power, or more… I’ve given up on explaining them that even though on paper their phones might be better, in real life they’re just a piece of under-developed, over-rushed plastic garbage the manufacturers hastily put together, just so they can comply with the at that time popular buzzwords on the mobile phone market, so they can sell a bunch of them and push out the next crappy phone after that.
And guess what? People buy them.
